Ireland: The "Parental Benefit" has increased parental leave and benefits from 5 weeks to seven weeks, enabling tens of thousands of new parents to leave work knowing that they have financial support.
The parental benefit is €250 per week, which is equivalent to childbirth, paternity and adaptive benefit. A parent will receive € 1,750 in seven weeks' payment.
Parental leave is available to employees and self-employed persons, and if you have adequate Social Insurance (PRSI) contributions, parental benefits will be paid when you are on parental leave from work.
If you are self-employed, you must apply directly to the Department of Social Protection (DSP) for parental benefits at least 6 weeks prior to your intention to take parental leave.
