Ireland: Met Eireann issued a warning of hot weather this morning, ensuring melting temperatures and "heatwave conditions" will be experienced.
According to Met Eireann, Ireland will experience temperatures above 25C for five days or more from Wednesday. Meteorologist Michelle Dillon says the warm weather is expected to spread across the country, although sea breezes will cool some coastal areas.
"Ireland will experience warm weather from Wednesday and will continue for the rest of the week and weekend," says a Met Eireann spokesman. "Daytime temperatures will widely reach the mid to high twenties. Uncomfortable heat will continue through the night."
Met Eireann is warning of the risk of heat stress, particularly for more vulnerable members of the population. It is also warned that warmer weather will result in higher solar UV index. This means that the skin and eyes are more susceptible to sunburn, and the time before the skin is damaged is shorter.
The Meteorological Center's advice also highlights the possibility of water-related accidents.
Irish Water has confirmed that the majority of its 750 water treatment plants across the country continue to meet demand for water supplies. However, 13 regions were affected by drought. They are as follows:
- Wexford Wexford Town
- Wexford Killmallock Bridge WTP (water treatment plant)
- Wexford Taylorstown New WTP
- Kilkenny Bennettsbridge WTP
- Kilkenny Clogh Castlecomer WTP (Loon WTP )
