New Delhi: The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization has started an investigation into the warning issued by the World Health Organization against the cough syrup of an Indian pharmaceutical company, which is suspected to be the cause of the death of 66 young children in the African country of Gambia.
The central government has banned four cough syrups namely Promethazine Oral Solution, Kofex Malin Baby Cough Syrup, Makoff Baby Cough Syrup and Magrip N Cold Syrup in the country.
It has been ascertained that the cough syrups are manufactured by M/s Maiden Pharmaceutical Limited, Sonepath, Haryana. According to the information available at this time, preliminary investigation also revealed that the company exported these products only to The Gambia.

According to the results of the World Health Organization investigation, four of the 23 samples tested contained diethylene glycol or ethylene glycol. These are chemicals that can cause serious kidney problems and other physical problems that can even lead to death.
