Suspicious explosive materials were found inside a cooker that was carried by a passenger which exploded in a moving auto-rickshaw in Karnataka's Mangaluru on Saturday, India Today has learned. Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Alok Kumar has ordered a high-level probe into the matter.

The explosion in a moving autorickshaw in Mangaluru was an 'act of terror,' Karnataka Director General of Police, Praveen Sood said on Sunday.

Recall that the Coimbatore blast case, in which an LPG cylinder exploded inside a car and killed one person, is somewhat analogous to the findings in this case. Police in the Coimbatore blast investigation hinted at a terror plan and disclosed that they found low-intensity explosives used to make country bombs in the deceased's home.

Four Duracell batteries, circuit-type cables, and items connected to MAT patterns were all present in the cooker. The driver and one of the passengers of an autorickshaw that was traveling when it burst in the city suffered burn wounds.

TRAVELER WITH FAKE AADHAR

Initial investigations have shown that the passenger was in possession of a bogus Aadhar card that was loaded with information about someone else. Using his ID card and the fact that the autorickshaw is registered in Durga Parmeshwari's name, the police have identified the passenger as "Prem Raj Kanogi."

The man entered the autorickshaw traveling from Naguri to Mangalore railway station. The traveler is receiving medical attention at a hospital after suffering 50% burn injuries. A forensic team has received the evidence gathered from the explosion scene and is conducting more research with it.

NIA TEAM GETS TO THE PLACE

A team of Bengaluru-based NIA personnel arrived at the scene in the interim to investigate the situation. The explosion site has been reached by a bomb disposal squad, a dog squad, and an autorickshaw was sent there as part of the inquiry.

Araga Jnanendra, the home minister for Karnataka, said: "The patient, who is still unable to speak, has been admitted to a reputable hospital and is getting the best care possible against the backdrop of the explosion that occurred in a rickshaw in Mangalore yesterday afternoon. The Mangalore Police has been looking into this matter, and the information so far suggests that it has a significant background and possible ties to terrorist organizations."

"Due to this, conversations with the National Security Force have also been held, and a joint investigation is being carried out. I believe full details about the blast will be released in a day or two "Added he.
