IRELAND: Fire at Wexford General Hospital; being evacuated

Wexford: The fire broke out on the second floor of the building on the Wexford General Hospital campus, with smoke billowing from the roof.

Assessing the situation including emergency services. Five units of Wexford Fire Brigade are at the scene. The hospital area is being evacuated and gardaí are advising people to stay away from the hospital.

Wexford County Council tweeted:

  "Following the fire at Wexford General Hospital we are asking everyone to avoid the area.

"Anyone living nearby, close windows and doors and turn off all air ventilation."

But the county council says no injuries have been reported so far. Eyewitnesses said there was considerable smoke coming from the building, but the amount of smoke had started to subside.
