Dublin Airport Authority has warned that the airport's long-term and short-term car parks are almost full and will not be able to accommodate all visitors this weekend.
Dublin Airport Authority spokesman Graeme McQueen warned members of the public to travel to the airport by bus, taxi or have a friend drop them off.
"The message to anyone who hasn't got a booking at this stage is if you're traveling to Dublin Airport, don't do it by car," he told RTÉ's News at One earlier this week. Mr McQueen said the airport had 100,000 passengers a day but a nearby private car park had been closed, leaving a fifth of the airport's parking spaces idle.
Dublin Airport hopes to buy the car park and reopen it, but the purchase is awaiting approval from the Competition Authority."We'd love to have it happen in the summer, but it's unlikely at the moment. If we get the green light, we can open it in two weeks,” McQueen said.
The airport's short-term car park is almost full, but space is reserved for people coming to pick up passengers.
