Cork County Council said its severe weather assessment team had been convened this evening and crews were on standby at a number of known risk locations across the county.
Crews are currently cleaning the inlets and gullies. Standbys and pumping arrangements will be put in place where problems are known. Flood warnings will be lifted in Mallow and Fermo this evening.
The council is urging the public to take extreme care as driving conditions "may be hazardous, with the possibility of surface flash flooding".
Met Eireann said the heavy rain could cause localized flooding and driving difficulties due to low visibility, with high tide likely to overrun the wave. The RSA is also asking motorists to be aware of cyclists and pedestrians.
