New Delhi: Emergency, the historical biographical drama directed, co-produced, and headlined by Kangana Ranaut, witnessed a modest but encouraging 36.8% growth in its box office earnings on its second day. After opening at ₹2.4 crore in India, the film earned ₹3.42 crore nett on Saturday, bringing its total domestic collection to ₹5.92 crore.
According to reports by Sacnilk, the film showed an upward trend in audience occupancy in the Hindi market. Morning shows registered a low 5.95% occupancy, which improved to 13.99% by the afternoon. Evening shows reached 20.01%, with the night slots peaking at 21.69%. The overall occupancy rate for the day stood at 15.41%.
Kangana’s Strongest Post-Pandemic Opening
Emergency marks Kangana Ranaut’s highest opening-day collection in the last five years. Comparatively, her recent films had underwhelming starts at the box office. Her 2023 aerial action drama Tejas opened at ₹1.25 crore, while the 2022 action film Dhaakad debuted with ₹1.20 crore. In 2021, her biographical film Thalaivii, based on the life of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, managed ₹1.46 crore across Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi markets combined.
Before Emergency, Kangana’s biggest box office opening post-pandemic came with the sports drama Panga (2020), which earned ₹2.70 crore on its first day.

Emergency chronicles the 21-month period from 1975 to 1977 when then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi imposed a nationwide Emergency, widely regarded as one of India’s most controversial political episodes. Kangana portrays Indira Gandhi, supported by a cast that includes Anupam Kher as Jayaprakash Narayan, Shreyas Talpade as Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Mahima Chaudhry as Pupul Jayakar, Milind Soman as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, and Vishak Nair as Sanjay Gandhi.
