Amit Shah-Led Panel Approves ₹1,554.99 Crore in Disaster Relief for Five States

New Delhi, February 19 – A high-level committee, chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, has sanctioned ₹1,554.99 crore in additional central assistance under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to support five states affected by floods, flash floods, landslides, and cyclonic storms in 2024, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced.

As per the allocation, the relief funds have been distributed as follows:

  • ₹608.08 crore for Andhra Pradesh
  • ₹170.99 crore for Nagaland
  • ₹255.24 crore for Odisha
  • ₹231.75 crore for Telangana
  • ₹288.93 crore for Tripura

Amit Shah Reviews Preparations for ‘Advantage Assam 2.0’

Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah met Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday to review preparations for the upcoming Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit, a two-day global business event set to be held in Guwahati. The discussions focused on ensuring strong participation from domestic and international investors and attracting investments across key sectors.

An official statement highlighted Shah’s appreciation for Sarma’s efforts, expressing confidence that the summit will bring substantial investments and position Assam as a global economic hub. The meeting lasted over 30 minutes.

Prime Minister Modi to Inaugurate the Summit on February 25

The Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit, aimed at accelerating economic growth in the Northeast, will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 25.

Following his meeting with Amit Shah, CM Sarma shared on social media:
"Today in New Delhi, I had the honor of meeting Hon'ble Home Minister Amit Shah to seek his guidance for Advantage Assam 2.0."

Assam to Sign Key MoUs with Japan and Singapore

In a significant development, the Assam government is set to sign two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Japan and Singapore during the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit. Addressing the media in Guwahati, CM Sarma revealed that Japan is keen on recruiting skilled manpower from Assam, while Singapore has shown interest in hiring nurses from the state.

With global partnerships on the horizon, Advantage Assam 2.0 is expected to reinforce the state’s position as a prime destination for investment and economic expansion.
