Kaziranga (Assam), February 24 (ANI): External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, accompanied by Heads of Mission and Ambassadors from 45 countries, embarked on an Elephant Safari at Kaziranga National Park on Monday. The visit comes ahead of the Advantage Assam summit, scheduled to be held in Guwahati on February 25.
Expressing his enthusiasm for Assam’s growing tourism sector, Jaishankar remarked, "I am very happy to see a rising number of tourists. We are here for Advantage Assam and will be heading to Guwahati afterward. Our goal is to elevate Assam and the Northeastern states onto a larger global platform—attracting more international tourists, investment, and interest. It is a great step forward, and witnessing this natural beauty early in the morning has been a fantastic start to the day."
When asked about Kaziranga's increasing tourist influx, Jaishankar acknowledged the trend, stating, "Yes, I have been informed that visitor numbers have already exceeded three lakh. It’s a positive development. Even the Prime Minister emphasizes the importance of exploring every state, as India is blessed with both natural and cultural tourism."
Global Delegates Appreciate Assam’s Natural Beauty
International delegates also shared their experiences, lauding Kaziranga’s unique biodiversity. A representative from Timor-Leste expressed admiration for the park, stating, "It was a privilege to witness the wildlife here, including elephants, rhinos, and tigers. Assam has immense potential to showcase its natural wonders to the world. Observing these animals in harmony teaches us a lesson about peace—how rhinos and elephants, despite their strength, coexist side by side."
Another delegate praised the initiative, saying, "I sincerely thank the Minister of External Affairs and the Assam authorities for this unforgettable experience. Being based in New Delhi, we rarely get the opportunity to witness such natural splendor. This visit has allowed us to immerse ourselves in Assam’s beauty, and I wish the wildlife here a long and prosperous future."
Advantage Assam: Showcasing Investment Potential
Advantage Assam is the largest investment promotion and facilitation initiative undertaken by the Government of Assam. The summit aims to highlight the state’s geostrategic advantages and its potential as a key investment hub.
Strategically positioned as the gateway to Northeast India and Southeast Asia, Assam is renowned for its tea plantations and petroleum reserves. The state is now diversifying into emerging sectors such as agriculture, food processing, handicrafts, tourism, and information technology.
With its rich natural heritage and increasing global interest, Assam is poised to become a leading destination for both tourism and investment in the coming years.
