Sangrur Police Intensifies Crackdown on Drug and Crime Networks, 14 Arrested

 Sangrur, February 16, 2025: In a decisive crackdown on drug abuse and criminal activities, the Sangrur District Police registered 12 new cases and arrested 14 individuals as part of a special campaign conducted between February 1 and February 14, 2025. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sartaj Singh Chahal reported significant drug seizures, including 77 grams of heroin, 10 kg of poppy husk, 450 grams of opium, and 2,060 intoxicant pills. A total of eight cases were filed against drug traffickers, leading to the arrest of 10 suspects. Additionally, the police intensified their efforts against liquor and arms smuggling, registering four new cases related to illegal liquor trade, arresting four individuals, and confiscating 36 liters of contract-made liquor and 15 liters of illicit liquor. In a separate operation under the Arms Act, two suspects were apprehended, and the police recovered three pistols/revolvers along with six magazines.


As part of the Sixth Anti-Drug Awareness Campaign, the police organized a Punjab-level Junior Athletics Meet at War Heroes Stadium, Sangrur, on February 5, 2025, where over 845 athletes participated. Recognizing exemplary service, the police on February 8 awarded appreciation letters to 11 gazetted officers, the DGP Disc to 72 personnel, commendation letters to 1,800 officers, and distributed cash rewards totaling ₹21 lakh. Demonstrating efficiency in law enforcement, Sangrur Police solved a theft case within 24 hours on February 9, arresting four suspects and recovering stolen property.

SSP Chahal urged public cooperation in the fight against drug abuse, highlighting that awareness meetings were held in 20 villages and urban areas, engaging with panchayats, sports clubs, and social leaders to educate youth on the dangers of substance abuse. He emphasized that the police are committed to eradicating the drug menace and called upon citizens to report any drug-related activities, assuring stringent action against offenders. The Sangrur Police remain steadfast in their mission to ensure public safety and dismantle criminal networks operating in the region.
