Rewa, Madhya Pradesh – In a heartbreaking turn of events, an elderly couple, abandoned by their own sons, arrived at the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) office in Sirmaur, their frail bodies and tattered clothing a testament to years of neglect. Their silent plea for justice resonated deeply, prompting swift intervention from the administration.
Srinivas Dwivedi and his wife, once the backbone of their family, had been left to fend for themselves for over two years. Despite repeated appeals to their sons, Vinod and Vijay, for financial support, they were met with indifference. In October 2023, they turned to the authorities, securing a directive that legally bound their children to provide for them. However, the order was ignored, leaving the elderly couple in dire straits.
With no other recourse, they returned to the SDM office once again, their condition even more distressing. The sight of their suffering struck a chord with SDM R.K. Sinha, who wasted no time in taking action. He immediately summoned the sons, making it unequivocally clear that failure to fulfill their duty would result in imprisonment.
Under legal pressure, Vinod and Vijay relented, each issuing a cheque of ₹28,000, along with a commitment to settle the remaining dues by March 31. As relief washed over the elderly father, his eyes welled up with tears of gratitude. But the SDM’s intervention went beyond enforcing justice—he extended compassion. In a rare and touching gesture, he gifted Srinivas a new dhoti-kurta and a coconut, while his wife received a fresh saree, restoring not just their dignity but also their faith in humanity.
