Ceasefire Tensions Rise Along LoC Amid Escalating Indo-Pak Conflict

In the early hours of Saturday, Pakistani forces initiated unprovoked firing across multiple sectors along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, according to official sources. The Indian Army responded swiftly and proportionately with small arms fire. No casualties have been reported from either side, marking the second ceasefire violation by Pakistan within 48 hours.

A formal statement from Indian defence officials noted: “On the night of 25th-26th April 2025, unprovoked small arms fire was carried out by multiple Pakistan Army posts across the LoC in Kashmir. Indian troops responded appropriately. No casualties were reported.”

Military sources suggest the firing may have been speculative in nature, likely aimed at testing the alertness of Indian forces. This activity follows increased domestic calls in India for firm action against cross-border terror infrastructure.

The ceasefire violation comes against the backdrop of heightened bilateral tensions following a brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which left at least 26 civilians—primarily tourists—dead. The attack was claimed by Kashmir Resistance, also known as The Resistance Front (TRF), widely regarded as a proxy of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba.

In response, the Indian government has taken a series of strong diplomatic and strategic measures, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and the closure of the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari. Additionally, India has revoked the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme for Pakistani nationals and downgraded diplomatic engagement at the High Commission level.

Pakistan has strongly condemned India’s suspension of the water-sharing treaty, labeling any obstruction to river flows as an “act of war.” Islamabad has also threatened to withdraw from the 1972 Simla Agreement, which provides the legal framework for the existing Line of Control between the two nations.

As tensions mount, both sides remain on high alert along the LoC, with regional stability hanging in the balance.
