Tensions between India and Pakistan continued to escalate as the Pakistan Army opened fire across the International Border in the Pargwal Sector of Jammu and Kashmir, while also violating the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) for the sixth consecutive night, according to official sources.
The Indian Army reported that Pakistan initiated unprovoked small arms fire in the Baramulla and Kupwara districts, to which Indian troops responded with appropriate countermeasures. “Further to the update concerning the night of April 29–30, unprovoked small arms firing by the Pakistan Army was also observed from across the LoC in Baramulla and Kupwara, in addition to the International Border in the Pargwal Sector,” the Army stated.
Multiple sectors along the LoC, including Nowshera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor, were subjected to small arms fire on Tuesday night—the sixth night in a row that Pakistan has engaged in ceasefire violations. Indian forces returned fire with precision and resolve.
These developments come in the aftermath of the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, where 26 individuals were killed after being identified by their religion in the Baisaran meadow. The incident triggered widespread international condemnation and strong calls for retaliation.
In response, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a series of high-level decisions. During a rally in Bihar, he vowed to pursue the perpetrators and their backers “to the ends of the earth.” Since the attack, the Prime Minister has chaired several critical meetings, including with the chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. He is scheduled to lead another meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security today, followed by sessions of the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs and the Union Cabinet.
Among the measures already taken, the government has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan and revoked all existing visas issued to Pakistani nationals in India.
In a rare development on Tuesday evening, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat visited Prime Minister Modi at his Lok Kalyan Marg residence. Sources confirmed that the two held a 90-minute meeting, during which Bhagwat expressed full support for the government’s decisions regarding Pakistan.
