Kochi: Criminal lawyer B.A. Aloor (56) passed away.
Prominent criminal lawyer B.A. Aloor passed away today at a private hospital in Kochi. He was undergoing treatment for kidney-related ailments and was in a critical condition, according to reports. He was 56 years old.
Known for representing some of the most controversial and high-profile defendants in Kerala's recent legal history, B. A. Aloor remained a polarizing figure in the eyes of the public.
His decades-long legal career was notable for his fiery presence in the courtroom and his willingness to take on cases that others would avoid.
Adv. Aloor gained public attention by appearing for Govindachamy, an accused in the Soumya murder case, a move that sparked heated debate across the state.
He continued to defend the accused in other newsworthy cases, including the Jisha murder case, the Koodathayi murder series, the Ilanthur human sacrifice case, and the Vismaya dowry death case.
Despite facing widespread criticism during the Koodathai trial, Aloor argued that every individual is entitled to legal representation, regardless of public opinion.
He took up the defense of Riyaz Abubakar, who was accused of planning a suicide attack in Kerala, and Ameer-ul-Islam, an accused in the brutal rape and murder of law student Jisha.
He had also previously expressed interest in protecting Pulsar Suni, the main accused in the actress assault case that rocked the Malayalam film industry.
B.A. Aloor's legal journey was as much about the rule of law as it was about public debate, which earned him both strong critics and staunch defenders.
