Richard Satchwell to Stand Trial for Murder of Wife Tina in High-Profile Cork Case

Dublin, April 29, 2025 — Richard Satchwell, the truck driver accused of murdering his wife, Tina Satchwell, will face trial this week at the Criminal Courts of Justice in Dublin.

Mr Satchwell (58), originally from Leicester in the United Kingdom, is charged with the murder of his wife Tina (45) at their home on Grattan Street in Youghal, Co Cork, on March 20, 2017. Her body was discovered buried beneath a staircase in the residence following a Garda investigation six years later.

The prosecution, led by Senior Counsel Geraldine Small, is expected to call dozens of witnesses throughout the proceedings. Mr Satchwell is being represented by Brendan Grehan SC and has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Tina Satchwell was first reported missing by her husband on March 24, 2017, at Fermoy Garda Station, prompting a years-long missing persons inquiry that ultimately led to the recovery of her remains in October 2023.

A jury comprising seven women and five men was sworn in on Monday. Opening arguments are expected to begin Tuesday.

This case has drawn national attention due to the circumstances of Ms Satchwell’s disappearance and the eventual discovery of her remains within the family home.
