Amit Shah Reviews Security Along Indo-Pak Border, JP Nadda Assesses Health Infrastructure

New Delhi/Islamabad – Tensions between India and Pakistan have surged following a series of military engagements under India’s Operation Sindoor, initiated in response to the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 civilian lives. On May 8, India conducted precision strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), targeting hideouts linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). The operation resulted in the deaths of at least 10 family members of JeM chief Masood Azhar and four of his close aides.

Pakistan retaliated on May 9 with a barrage of artillery fire, drone, and missile attacks on multiple locations in Jammu, including a strategic airstrip, as well as regions in Punjab and Rajasthan. Security agencies reported that several missiles were launched from Pakistan, all of which were successfully intercepted by India’s S-400 air defence system. In a robust counteroffensive, Indian forces swarmed Islamabad, Lahore, and Rawalpindi with drones, executing multiple retaliatory strikes, and shot down a Pakistani F-16 fighter jet over Rajasthan.

Earlier on May 9, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri dismissed Pakistan’s allegations that India’s strikes targeted civilians and religious sites, emphasizing the precision nature of Operation Sindoor. Pakistan’s retaliatory shelling in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district killed 16 people and injured over 50, escalating the conflict further. India has sharply criticized Pakistan for providing “state funerals” to eliminated terrorists, with officials stating that honoring such individuals undermines efforts to combat terrorism in the region.
