Roscommon, May 1, 2025 – An elderly woman has died following a fatal road traffic collision involving a lorry in Frenchpark, Co. Roscommon earlier this evening.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:45 p.m. near the junction of the N5 and R361. The woman, who was in her 80s, was walking in the area when she was struck by a truck. Emergency services responded promptly, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her body was later transferred to the mortuary at University Hospital Galway, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.
The driver of the truck was uninjured in the incident. A technical examination was carried out at the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, and the road has since been reopened to traffic.
In an official statement, a spokesperson for An Garda SÃochána said:
“Gardaà are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in Frenchpark, Co. Roscommon today, Thursday 1st May 2025.”
“The incident, involving a pedestrian and a truck, occurred at the junction of the N5 and R361 at approximately 4:45pm this afternoon. The pedestrian, a woman aged in her 80s, was pronounced deceased at the scene,” the spokesperson added.
“Her body has since been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Galway where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course. There were no other injuries reported.”
The Gardaà are urging anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who may have been in the area at the time to come forward.
“A technical examination has since been conducted by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and the road has reopened to traffic,” the spokesperson continued.
“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 4:30pm and 5:00pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating GardaÃ.”
