New Delhi :Major Indian carriers IndiGo and Air India have announced the cancellation of all scheduled flights to and from nine airports across North and West India for today, citing renewed safety concerns in light of the ongoing geopolitical situation.
The impacted airports include Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Chandigarh, Amritsar, Jodhpur, Jamnagar, Bhuj, and Rajkot—regions that had briefly resumed limited operations following a temporary suspension of civilian air traffic earlier this month.
This renewed disruption comes shortly after airspace over parts of North and West India was reopened on May 12 following a week-long closure prompted by heightened military tensions between India and Pakistan. The suspension initially came into effect on May 7, impacting operations at 32 airports, including several key defense airfields.
In an official statement, IndiGo reiterated that “passenger safety remains its highest priority” and expressed regret over the inconvenience caused. The airline confirmed it is “closely monitoring the situation” and working to assist affected passengers. Air India also confirmed the cancellation of services to the same nine destinations and echoed a similar commitment to ensuring passenger safety.
Both airlines have advised travelers scheduled to fly to or from the affected airports today to verify the status of their flights through official airline websites or mobile applications before heading to the airport. IndiGo has additionally encouraged passengers to contact customer support for assistance with rebooking or travel alternatives.
Among the 32 airports that experienced temporary suspension of commercial operations earlier this month were Srinagar, Jammu, Leh, Chandigarh, Amritsar, Jodhpur, and Rajkot, which are now facing renewed restrictions. These facilities had reopened only yesterday morning, following what was described as a “ceasefire understanding” between India and Pakistan.
Airlines are expected to issue further updates depending on how the security situation evolves. Passengers are urged to stay informed through official communication channels for the latest developments.
