India Launches Global Diplomatic Mission Following Operation Sindoor: Seven Parliamentary Delegations to Present Evidence of Terror Links

New Delhi, May 18, 2025 — In a significant move reinforcing its global zero-tolerance stance against terrorism, the Government of India has deployed seven high-level delegations to key international capitals to present the country's position and evidence regarding the recent Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians.

Announced by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday, the initiative underscores India’s intensified diplomatic outreach in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, a series of precision strikes targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Senior Lawmakers to Lead the Charge

Each delegation is led by a prominent Member of Parliament representing various political parties, reflecting a rare moment of cross-party consensus on a matter of national importance. The appointed leaders are:

  • Shashi Tharoor (INC)

  • Ravi Shankar Prasad (BJP)

  • Sanjay Kumar Jha (JDU)

  • Baijayant Panda (BJP)

  • Kanimozhi Karunanidhi (DMK)

  • Supriya Sule (NCP)

  • Shrikant Eknath Shinde (Shiv Sena)

The delegations also include seasoned diplomats and bureaucrats with significant experience in foreign affairs. Among them are Taranjeet Singh Sandhu, former Ambassador to the United States and 2024 BJP Lok Sabha candidate from Amritsar, and Javed Ashraf, India’s former Ambassador to France. MJ Akbar and V. Muraleedharan, both former Ministers of State for External Affairs, are also part of the initiative.

Strategic Itinerary and International Engagement

The first of the delegations is scheduled to depart for Guyana on May 24, followed by an official visit to the United States by June 2, where they are expected to engage in high-level meetings with U.S. policymakers, think tanks, and diaspora groups. This team, which is expected to cover five countries over ten days beginning May 22, is viewed as the most high-profile among the seven.

Originally, senior TMC leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay was proposed for participation but withdrew due to health concerns. His role has since been filled by Tejasvi Surya, BJP MP from Bengaluru South.

Operation Sindoor: A Coordinated Military Response

India’s robust diplomatic campaign follows the execution of Operation Sindoor, a military offensive that targeted 21 terror camps operated by Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Conducted across nine strategic locations—four in Pakistan and five in PoK—the strikes were executed within a tightly synchronized 24-minute window.

Key Pakistani airbases targeted included Rafiqui (Shorkot, Jhang), Murid (Chakwal), Nur Khan (Chaklala, Rawalpindi), Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur, and Chunian (Kasur). Additionally, significant damage was reported at air bases in Skardu, Bholari, Jacobabad, and Sargodha.

Among those reportedly killed were ten family members of JeM chief Masood Azhar and four close aides, in what Indian officials described as a precision retaliation not only for the Pahalgam massacre but also to neutralize future threats originating from these camps.

A Unified National Front

By deploying lawmakers from across the political spectrum, India aims to project a unified national resolve on counter-terrorism. The delegations are expected to present a detailed dossier of intelligence inputs and satellite imagery from the strikes, underscoring India's right to self-defense under international law.

This coordinated diplomatic effort is poised to reinforce India's narrative at global forums, highlight Pakistan’s continued support for terror outfits, and advocate for stronger international action.
