Operation Sindoor: India Targets Nine Terror Sites in Precision Military Response

New Delhi/Srinagar, May 7 – In a major counter-terror operation, India launched targeted precision strikes under Operation Sindoor on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, hitting nine terror infrastructure sites in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan. The operation comes nearly two weeks after the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 civilians, including a Nepali national.

According to military sources, the strikes focused exclusively on terrorist launchpads and camps used by militant groups to infiltrate across the Line of Control (LoC), deliberately avoiding any Pakistani military installations. This move reflects a calibrated and non-escalatory approach by India while asserting its right to self-defense.

The Indian Army confirmed that the strikes were aimed at dismantling operational capabilities of terrorist groups functioning out of PoK. Military activity has since intensified in the Kashmir Valley, with increased air traffic around Srinagar signaling a heightened state of operational readiness and surveillance.

In Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha visited border districts to assess the ground situation. “I’m closely monitoring the situation and the government is fully prepared to deal with any eventuality,” Sinha said. He also instructed local authorities to relocate residents from vulnerable areas to safer zones and to ensure proper arrangements for food, shelter, medical care, and transport.

Sources indicate that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is personally monitoring the situation from 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval providing constant updates on the progress of the operation.

In light of the strikes, civil aviation operations have been disrupted. Major carriers, including Air India, have cancelled all flights to and from key northern cities—Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot—until noon today. Airlines have cited “prevailing security conditions” as the reason for the temporary halt in services.

As the situation evolves, India’s diplomatic and security establishments remain on high alert, with further decisions expected based on responses from across the border.
