Satellite Imagery Confirms Indian Strikes on Terror Camps in Pakistan Under ‘Operation Sindoor’

New Delhi,  – A day after India executed precision strikes on terror camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) under its recently launched Operation Sindoor, new satellite imagery has emerged corroborating significant infrastructural damage at two key terrorist strongholds.

The images, released by Colorado-based Maxar Technologies, reveal substantial destruction at two high-value targets: the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) headquarters in Bahawalpur and the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) compound in Muridke, both situated in Pakistan’s Punjab province.

The military operation, executed during the intervening night of May 6–7, was launched in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, that claimed the lives of 26 civilians, primarily tourists. The strikes targeted a total of nine terror installations and are viewed as a calibrated response aimed at neutralizing the operational capabilities of proscribed Pakistan-based terror outfits.

Bahawalpur Strike: JeM Headquarters Targeted

In Bahawalpur, Indian forces struck Markaz Subhan Allah, the central training and indoctrination facility of Jaish-e-Mohammed. Operational since 2015, the compound has served as the outfit’s main planning hub and houses several top leadership figures, including JeM chief Maulana Masood Azhar, his brother Mufti Abdul Rauf Asghar, and other senior operatives.

The facility, believed to have played a role in the planning of the 2019 Pulwama suicide bombing, regularly hosts training sessions in arms, tactics, and radical indoctrination for its cadre. The strike is seen as a direct attempt to disrupt JeM’s operational hierarchy and training capabilities.

Muridke Strike: Lashkar-e-Taiba’s Nerve Centre Hit

The second major target was Markaz Taiba in Muridke, considered the ideological and operational heart of Lashkar-e-Taiba. Established in 2000, the facility serves as a radicalisation hub, enrolling over 1,000 students annually in religious and militant training programs.

According to intelligence inputs, the Markaz was used to train Ajmal Kasab, one of the perpetrators of the 2008 Mumbai attacks, under the guidance of Lashkar’s military chief Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi. Key conspirators of the 26/11 attacks, including David Coleman Headley and Tahawwur Hussain Rana, were also linked to this site during preparatory visits.

It has also come to light that the late al-Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden had financed the construction of a mosque and guest house within the Muridke complex, further underscoring its transnational jihadi affiliations.

India's Strategic Messaging

The strikes, part of a broader policy shift towards preemptive counter-terror operations, signal India’s intent to hold cross-border actors accountable for violence on its soil. Officials have reiterated India’s resolve to dismantle the infrastructure of terrorism, regardless of geographical boundaries.

In the wake of the Pahalgam massacre, India has already downgraded diplomatic relations with Pakistan, suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, and closed the Attari land border. The latest military action under Operation Sindoor reaffirms New Delhi’s zero-tolerance approach to cross-border terrorism.
