War atmosphere in Jammu; Pakistan violates all limits; Pakistan attack targets Jammu airport

Srinagar: War atmosphere on the border; Pakistan has violated all limits.

An F-16 fighter jet of the Indian Air Force was shot down by a Pakistani fighter jet that had been firing missiles at Jammu. The Pakistani attack was aimed at the Jammu airport. It is not clear whether there was any damage to the airport. The Jammu airport is also home to an air force base.

India had foiled a drone and missile attack attempt by Pakistan targeting the airport. India shot down around 50 drones and eight Pakistani missiles using the Russian-made S-400 air defense system. Mobile phone service was disrupted in Jammu.

High alert continues on the border. National media reports quoting locals that continuous alarm sirens are being sounded in Jammu. Lights have been switched off in Jammu as a precautionary measure. Firing is reported in Akhnoor, Samba and Kathua in Kashmir. International news agency Reuters reported that eyewitnesses said that they heard two loud explosions.

Apart from Jammu and Kashmir, lights were switched off in Gurdaspur and Pathankot in Punjab and the border areas of Rajasthan. The alert was heightened following intelligence reports that Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba may carry out attacks in Kashmir and Punjab.
