Fifth Day of Israel-Iran Strikes Prompts Trump to Urge Evacuation of Tehran

June 17 – The conflict between Israel and Iran intensified for a fifth consecutive day on Tuesday, as U.S. President Donald Trump issued a stark warning, urging civilians to evacuate Tehran “immediately.” The appeal came amid Iran’s continued rejection of a proposed agreement aimed at limiting its nuclear weapons program.

The White House announced that President Trump would shorten his participation in the ongoing Group of Seven (G7) summit in Canada, returning a day early to address the worsening crisis in the Middle East. He is expected to convene a high-level meeting of the National Security Council upon his return.

French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed Trump’s early departure, calling it a “positive and timely decision” given the urgency of pursuing a ceasefire between the two warring nations.

“Iran should have signed the ‘deal’ I told them to sign. What a shame, and waste of human life. Simply stated, Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. I said it over and over again! Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran,” President Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

Within hours of the post, Iranian media reported multiple explosions and intense air defence operations over Tehran in the early hours of Tuesday. The outlet Asriran also confirmed that air defence systems were activated in Natanz, a key nuclear site located approximately 320 kilometers south of the capital.

Simultaneously, air raid sirens blared across Tel Aviv shortly after midnight, followed by explosions as Iranian missiles once again struck Israeli territory. The attack marked the fifth straight day of hostilities between the two regional powers.

Casualty figures continue to mount. Iranian officials reported that the national death toll had reached 224, with most victims identified as civilians. Israeli authorities reported 24 civilian fatalities. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich confirmed that nearly 3,000 residents had been evacuated due to extensive damage caused by incoming Iranian missile fire.

Amid the escalating violence, behind-the-scenes diplomatic efforts appear to be underway. According to multiple sources cited by Reuters, Iran has approached regional intermediaries—including Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia—requesting their assistance in urging President Trump to pressure Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu into accepting an immediate ceasefire. In return, Tehran has signaled a willingness to re-engage with nuclear negotiations under revised terms.

“If President Trump is sincere about diplomacy and truly committed to ending this war, then the next steps are crucial,” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi posted on X. “Israel must halt its aggression. Without a total cessation of military attacks, our defensive responses will persist.”

As the world watches closely, the situation remains fluid with the potential for further escalation—or breakthrough—depending on the success of diplomatic interventions now in motion.
