Tehran | June 22, 2025 — Iran has confirmed that no radioactive contamination has been detected following a series of U.S. airstrikes targeting three of its nuclear facilities—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan—early Sunday morning. The strikes, described by analysts as a dramatic escalation in an already volatile region, have drawn strong condemnation from Tehran and raised fears of a broader regional conflict.
In an official statement released via state media, Iran’s National Nuclear Safety System Centre stated that radiation detectors installed at and around the affected sites had reported no signs of radioactive leakage. The Atomic Energy Commission echoed the findings, assuring the public that the nuclear facilities remained secure and that surrounding populations faced no health threats.
Labeling the U.S. operation as “barbaric” and a blatant violation of international law, Iranian authorities insisted that their nuclear programme would continue undeterred. “It is expected that the international community will condemn this lawlessness, rooted in jungle rules, and support Iran in asserting its legitimate rights,” the statement read.
Regional partners have also responded. Saudi Arabia’s nuclear regulatory authority reported that no traces of radiation were found within its borders or across the wider Gulf region, further confirming the absence of immediate nuclear fallout.
Despite the severity of the attack, Iranian state media emphasized that the situation was “under control” and that there was “no danger” to residents near the impacted facilities.
The airstrikes were launched as part of a coordinated U.S. military campaign targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. U.S. President Donald Trump, in a public address, described the mission as a “very successful attack,” and warned Tehran of even more severe consequences if it failed to pursue peace with the United States and Israel. “There are many targets left,” he cautioned, pressing for a diplomatic resolution while keeping the threat of future military action on the table.
In a sharp rebuttal, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei issued a stark warning: “Americans should expect greater damage and blows than ever before,” hinting at imminent retaliation. Meanwhile, Hamas condemned what it called the United States’ “brutal aggression,” describing the strikes as a violation of international norms.
As a precautionary measure, Israel's Airport Authority announced the closure of its airspace to all incoming and outgoing flights amid heightened regional security concerns.
The strikes mark one of the most significant military escalations in the Middle East in recent years, with diplomatic and security ramifications likely to unfold in the days ahead.
