What should have marked the beginning of a lifelong union turned into a harrowing ordeal for a 26-year-old groom from Prayagraj, whose newlywed bride allegedly threatened to dismember him and declared her allegiance to another man on the very night of their wedding.
The shocking incident unfolded in ADA Colony, Prayagraj, after Captain Nishad married Sitara, daughter of Lakshmi Narayan Nishad from Karachhana Deeha village, on April 29, 2025. The bride arrived at the groom’s residence on April 30, and a formal reception was held on May 2. However, behind the festive façade, a disturbing sequence of events was quietly unraveling.
According to Nishad, the horror began on their wedding night.
"Touch me and you’ll be found in 35 pieces. I belong to Aman," Sitara allegedly warned, sitting veiled in a corner of the room with a knife in her hand.
"That entire night, I sat on the sofa while she stayed on the bed, clutching the knife. I didn’t sleep a wink," Nishad recalled.
This unsettling standoff reportedly continued for three nights, during which the groom lived in constant fear for his life.
"She would sleep only after midnight. I stayed awake, afraid she might stab me. I’ve read about such cases—at that point, I believed I might become one of them," he said.
Confession and Confrontation
On May 3, unable to cope with the psychological pressure, Nishad disclosed the situation to his mother. A confrontation ensued, during which Sitara reportedly admitted she was in love with another man named Aman.
"I only married because I was forced to. I want to live with Aman—only he has the right to spend a wedding night with me," she allegedly told the family.
Sitara’s confession stunned the household. Nishad’s sister, Poonam, noted that the family first sensed something was amiss when the groom appeared unusually withdrawn.
"She told us openly, ‘I love Aman, and I will only be with him’. She even called Aman in front of us and asked him to come get her. She showed me her chat history with him. Aman threatened to kill my brother. We were terrified," Poonam said.
Nishad’s mother, Shanti Devi, said the family lived under emotional duress for days.
"She threatened to harm herself or my son. We were constantly afraid. Thank God she left on her own. At least now, both are safe."
Family and Community Intervention
Sitara’s father, visibly distressed, expressed regret over the failed marriage alliance.
"I tried my best to find a suitable match for her. We did everything we could to convince her. But in the end, all we are left with is shame and sorrow. Even police and community efforts failed."
No FIR Filed, Settlement Reached
According to Inspector Kishore Gautam of Naini Bridge Police Station, the issue was treated as a domestic dispute.
"The boy’s family submitted a written application requesting no FIR. Both families signed a mutual settlement. Since this was a private family matter, we honoured their decision."
Now attempting to recover from the trauma, Captain Nishad is focused on healing.
"If I marry again, it will be with someone who understands what marriage truly means. Sitara never accepted me—she only wanted Aman. Every night, I feared for my life," he shared.
"Even now, I’m unsure whether I could ever live with her again. That fear hasn’t left me."
