MOSCOW, June 24 — The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed on Monday that it had launched a large-scale overnight strike on multiple Ukrainian military facilities in the Kiev region, using high-precision weapons and unmanned aerial vehicles.
According to the ministry’s official statement, the coordinated attack targeted Ukraine’s military-industrial infrastructure, including a military airfield, weapons storage facilities, and an arsenal reportedly associated with the Ukrainian Navy’s mine and torpedo systems.
“All assigned targets were successfully hit,” the ministry stated in a post on its official Telegram channel, noting that the objectives of the operation had been fully achieved.
Residents in Kiev reported to local media that the strikes appeared to focus on sites involved in drone manufacturing and assembly. However, Ukrainian authorities asserted that several residential buildings were damaged during the attack, resulting in at least six fatalities and more than 20 injuries in the capital and its surrounding areas. It remains unclear whether the civilian casualties were caused by direct missile impact or by falling debris from intercepted drones and projectiles.
The Russian government has consistently denied targeting civilian infrastructure, maintaining that its military operations are solely focused on Ukrainian defense assets.
In its broader assessment of the ongoing campaign, the Russian Defense Ministry added that its air and ground forces—including operational-tactical aviation, UAVs, missile units, and artillery—had successfully struck a range of Ukrainian military assets across 137 locations. These included ammunition depots, drone operator training facilities, and temporary deployment areas housing both Ukrainian troops and foreign fighters.
The escalation in Russian strikes comes amid Kiev’s growing use of drone attacks on Russian territory—a strategy Moscow has strongly condemned. The Kremlin has characterized these UAV incursions as efforts to undermine diplomatic progress and ongoing peace initiatives.
