Muzaffarpur/Patna, July 7 — In a disturbing spate of violent crimes across Bihar, a government engineer was brutally stabbed to death in Muzaffarpur, while separate shooting incidents in Patna have claimed the lives of two businessmen in recent days.
In Muzaffarpur, Mohammad Mumtaz, a junior engineer, was fatally attacked inside his residence in Madipur, under the Kazi Mohammadpur police station limits, around 3 a.m. on Sunday. Police officials said the assailants entered the house with the intent to rob and stabbed Mumtaz multiple times in the presence of his wife and children, before fleeing with valuables.
“The police reached the scene promptly and rushed Mumtaz to the nearest government hospital, where he was declared brought dead,” said Kota Kiran Kumar, Superintendent of Police (City), Muzaffarpur.
Authorities confirmed that the murder weapon has been recovered from the scene. A forensic team and dog squad have also been deployed to assist in the investigation.
Targeted Killings in Patna: Businessmen Shot Dead
In a separate incident in Patna, Ajeet Kumar, a local businessman, was shot dead on Sunday night in the Khagaul area, according to police.
“A formal complaint has been registered and an investigation is underway,” confirmed Bhanu Pratap Singh, SP City (West), Patna.
Police sources revealed that Kumar’s wife operates a school in the Danapur area, and preliminary investigations are exploring both personal and financial motives behind the attack.
The capital city also remains tense following the recent killing of prominent businessman Gopal Khemka, who was gunned down by an unidentified assailant riding a motorcycle. The incident mirrors the 2018 murder of Khemka’s son, Gunjan Khemka, who was similarly shot dead in Patna, raising serious concerns over law and order in the state capital.
