Final-Year Medical Student Found Dead in Udaipur Hostel; Allegations of Faculty Harassment Surface

Udaipur, Rajasthan – July 26: A final-year dental student at a private medical college in Udaipur allegedly died by suicide in her hostel room on Thursday night, sparking protests and serious allegations against the institution’s faculty.

The deceased, identified as Sweta Singh, hailed from Jammu and Kashmir and was pursuing her BDS degree. According to police officials, her roommate discovered her hanging in the room and immediately informed hostel authorities, who then alerted the police.

Investigators recovered a suicide note from the scene in which Sweta allegedly accused faculty members of mental harassment and raised concerns over the irregular conduct of examinations.

In the wake of the incident, tensions escalated on campus as fellow students staged a protest march, blocking the road outside the college and demanding action against the faculty members named in the note.

The college administration initiated dialogue with the agitating students. Speaking to the media, the college director said, “The matter is currently under police investigation, and the college management is fully cooperating. Strict disciplinary action, including termination of the staff involved, will be taken if the allegations are substantiated.”

Ravindra Charan, SHO of Sukher Police Station, confirmed that the student's body has been moved to the mortuary. A post-mortem examination will be conducted following the arrival of her family.

Police have registered a case and are recording statements from students, faculty, and staff as part of the ongoing investigation.
