Gunfire at Patna Hospital: Notorious Criminal Injured in Targeted Attack

Patna, July 17 — Chaos unfolded at Paras HMRI Hospital in Patna on Thursday morning after unidentified assailants opened fire inside the facility, leaving one person injured. The victim, identified as Chandan Mishra, a convicted murderer out on parole, was reportedly the target of a rival gang.

According to officials, Mishra, a resident of Buxar district with multiple murder cases against him, had been transferred from Bhagalpur jail to the hospital for medical treatment. While undergoing care at the hospital, a group of five armed men stormed the premises and opened fire, injuring him. No other casualties or injuries were reported among hospital staff or patients.

CCTV footage circulating online appears to show armed men entering the hospital lobby and fleeing the scene after discharging their weapons. Law enforcement authorities were immediately alerted, and an investigation is now underway.

Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya K. Sharma confirmed the incident, stating, “Chandan Mishra, a notorious criminal from Buxar district with numerous murder charges, was on parole and receiving treatment at Paras Hospital when he was targeted by a rival gang.”

“We are working closely with Buxar Police to identify the attackers,” the SSP added. “We have obtained clear images of the shooters and are making progress in tracking them down.”

Preliminary inquiries suggest the assailants may have ties to the local real estate sector and a history of criminal activity in the region.

This incident comes just days after another criminal, Suraj Kumar, sustained a gunshot injury while attempting to flee from police custody in Patna's Ranitalab area. Kumar, accused in a recent firing case and several other crimes, tried to escape while being taken to identify his associates. According to police, officers resorted to controlled firing when he ignored repeated warnings to stop, resulting in a bullet wound to his leg before he was apprehended.

Both incidents have raised serious concerns over the growing audacity of criminal gangs in Bihar and the risks posed to public safety, even in critical locations like hospitals.

Authorities have assured the public that security will be intensified at vulnerable sites and that efforts are underway to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice.
