Patna, July 8:Vikas, alias Raja, a prime accused in the murder of industrialist Gopal Khemka, was killed on Tuesday during a police encounter. The incident occurred during a coordinated raid conducted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and the Special Task Force (STF).
Authorities stated that Vikas, who had a known history of involvement in the illegal arms trade, opened fire upon seeing the police. He was fatally shot in the retaliatory action that followed.
This development comes just a day after two individuals were arrested in connection with the high-profile killing of Patna-based businessman Gopal Khemka. Among those apprehended was the individual who allegedly pulled the trigger. A third suspect, believed to have orchestrated the contract killing, has also been taken into custody.
“Both key suspects were arrested in Patna by a joint team comprising STF and local police. The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be shared in due course,” a senior police official confirmed.
Gopal Khemka was shot dead by a motorcycle-borne assailant on the night of July 4, outside his residence in the Gandhi Maidan area of Patna. The attack took place at approximately 11:40 p.m. The murder bears chilling similarities to a previous tragedy in 2017, when Khemka’s son was shot dead in Hajipur.
In response to the incident, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar convened a high-level meeting on Saturday to review the state’s law and order situation. He directed authorities to expedite the investigation and ensure swift justice.
Reports indicate that Khemka had affiliations with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), though officials have yet to comment on any political angle in the ongoing probe.
