DUBLIN • A 41-year-old man has been formally charged with the murder of Joseph McEvoy, who died following an alleged assault in Dublin early Monday morning.

Christopher Kelly, with an address at Shancastle Park in west Dublin, was brought before Dublin District Court on Tuesday afternoon. During the hearing, he made no reply to the charge of murder when it was formally put to him.
Detective Sergeant Sean Cosgrave of An Garda SÃochána provided evidence of the arrest, charge, and caution. He informed the court that Mr Kelly was taken into custody at 3:07 PM and charged with murder at 3:58 PM. No response was recorded from the accused following the standard legal caution.
As is standard procedure in murder cases under Irish law, no bail application was made, as bail cannot be considered by the District Court in such matters.
Judge David McHugh granted Mr Kelly free legal aid after the court was informed that the accused is not currently in receipt of social welfare. Mr Kelly did not address the court during the brief proceedings and has not yet entered a plea.
Victim Identified as Local Father
The victim, Joseph McEvoy, was a father of two young boys and a stepfather to a girl. Gardaà were alerted to an alleged assault at a residence in Clondalkin at approximately 5:50 AM on Monday. Upon arrival, Mr McEvoy was found unresponsive and was immediately transported to John Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown, where he was later pronounced dead.
The case has been adjourned, and Mr Kelly remains in custody pending further proceedings. Garda investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
