Amit Shah Targets Lalu Prasad Over , Lays Foundation Stone for Janki Mandir in Bihar

Sitamarhi, Bihar – August 9, 2025:Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and opposition parties, accusing them of undermining democratic processes and engaging in vote-bank politics amid the political row over the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.

Speaking at a public event in Punauradham, Sitamarhi district, after laying the foundation stone for the redevelopment of the historic Janki Mandir, Shah claimed that the Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) were opposing the SIR exercise to shield illegal immigrants from Bangladesh who, he alleged, were taking jobs from local youth.

"Opposition Fearing Defeat," Says Shah

“By opposing the SIR, Congress and RJD are defending those who have entered from Bangladesh and are taking away employment opportunities meant for the youth of Bihar,” Shah said. “They are looking for excuses because they’ve already accepted defeat in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.”

Taking direct aim at Rahul Gandhi, the Union Minister reminded the Congress of its own historical record. “This is not the first time an SIR is being conducted. It was initiated during Jawaharlal Nehru’s tenure and was carried out in 2003 as well,” Shah stated. “Rahul Gandhi must stop his vote-bank politics. The revision is aimed at cleaning the voters’ list by removing names of infiltrators.”

On Operation Sindoor and National Security

Shah also slammed Congress and RJD for allegedly opposing Operation Sindoor, India’s ongoing military operation against insurgents. “Lalu Prasad Yadav and his party are raising objections in Parliament without realising that this is Narendra Modi’s government. This is the NDA — and no one will be allowed to compromise the security of our nation,” he asserted.

Redevelopment of Janki Mandir

The Union Minister was in Sitamarhi to lead the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the redevelopment of the revered Janki Mandir at Punauradham, believed to be the birthplace of Goddess Sita. The project, with an estimated cost of over ₹882.87 crore, includes a comprehensive upgrade of the temple complex and associated tourism infrastructure.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, several Union ministers, and other dignitaries were present at the event. Shah performed the traditional bhoomi pujan and unveiled the architectural design for the redevelopment project.

According to officials, ₹137 crore has been earmarked for restoration of the existing temple and its surroundings, while ₹728 crore will be allocated for tourism development in the region. An additional ₹16 crore has been set aside for comprehensive maintenance over the next 10 years.

Rail Connectivity Boost

In a move to enhance regional connectivity, Shah also virtually flagged off the new Sitamarhi–Delhi Amrit Bharat Express, linking the cultural heartland of Bihar with the national capital.

The initiative is seen as part of a broader effort by the Centre to promote cultural tourism and spiritual heritage in Bihar while simultaneously addressing critical political issues ahead of the state elections
