Kolkata — A four-year-old boy was allegedly attacked by a sniffer dog belonging to a private security agency at Kolkata airport, forcing his family to abandon their planned overseas trip, police said.
The incident occurred between departure gates 4A and 4B, when the German Shepherd, despite being leashed and under a handler’s supervision, reportedly lunged forward and bit the child. The boy, who was travelling with his parents to Malaysia, sustained injuries and was left traumatised.
Following the incident, the child’s father lodged a complaint, leading to the registration of an FIR against the dog’s handler for “incompetence in controlling the animal and causing severe injury.” According to the complaint, the family was compelled to cancel their journey as the child required a complete course of anti-rabies vaccination lasting nearly a month.
Police confirmed that an investigation into the matter is underway.
