Thiruvananthapuram: In a dramatic rescue operation, Kerala Police freed two elderly businessmen who had been abducted from Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, and held captive in an abandoned house at Udiyankulangara, Neyyattinkara. The victims, Yusuf and Jabir—both from Krishnagiri—were found chained inside a locked house and subjected to brutal assault by their captors.
According to police, the gang masqueraded as Kerala Police officers, arriving in an Innova car and claiming that the businessmen were wanted in a case in Kerala. The abductors handcuffed the victims, assaulted them during transit, and demanded a ransom of ₹50 lakh for their release.
The breakthrough came when the District Anti-Narcotics Squad (DANSAF), while pursuing a separate investigation into a drug syndicate, tracked a suspicious two-wheeler to the house. Although the property appeared locked from the outside, the sound of a running ceiling fan aroused suspicion. On forcing the door open, police heard cries for help and discovered the chained victims inside.
Those arrested in connection with the case have been identified as Samuel Thomas of Udiyankulangara, Binoy Augustine of Neyyattinkara, Abhiram of Neyyattinkara, and Vishnu S. Gopan of Kamukinkode. Police said Samuel Thomas works with Uber in Bengaluru, while the house used for confinement belongs to his maternal aunt. Binoy is employed as a trainer at a multi-gym, and Abhiram is a Merchant Navy professional.
During the raid, police seized the Innova car, two two-wheelers, fake Kerala Police ID cards, number plates, a firearm with ammunition, and several mobile phones.
Investigators revealed that the victims had travelled to Krishnagiri on the instructions of an acquaintance they met through an online platform, believing it was linked to a property deal. It was then that the gang intercepted and abducted them.
Police have confirmed that two key accused, including a murder-accused individual, are still absconding. Efforts are underway to trace and apprehend them.
