Kochi, August 2: Renowned Malayalam film actor and mimicry artist Kalabhavan Navas was found dead in a hotel room in Chottanikkara, Kochi, on Friday evening. He was 51. The actor was discovered unconscious by hotel staff, who alerted authorities after he failed to report at reception for his scheduled checkout.
According to a police statement to PTI, Navas was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Preliminary investigations suggest cardiac arrest as the likely cause of death, though a post-mortem examination has been scheduled for Saturday at the Government Medical College Hospital, Kalamassery, to confirm the exact cause. His body is currently being held at SD Tata Hospital in Chottanikkara and will be handed over to his family following the autopsy.
Navas had been staying at the hotel for the filming of the upcoming Malayalam movie Prakambanam, according to Manorama News. Police officials reported no signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances in his room.
A Versatile Talent in Malayalam Entertainment
Kalabhavan Navas was a beloved figure in the Malayalam entertainment industry, widely admired for his talents as a mimicry artist, playback singer, and actor. He made his film debut in 1995 with Chaithanyam and went on to establish a niche for himself in comedic and character roles.
His film credits include popular titles such as Mimics Action 500 (1995), Hitler Brothers (1997), Junior Mandrake (1997), Mattupetti Machan (1998), Amma Ammaayiyamma (1998), Chandamama (1999), and Thillana Thillana (2003). He was also a regular presence in television serials, stage shows, and mimicry performances.
Navas hailed from a family with deep roots in the performing arts. His father, the late Aboobacker, was a noted theatre artist and actor in Malayalam cinema. His brother, Kalabhavan Niyas, and his wife, Rehana, are also active in the entertainment industry.
