Minneapolis, August 27 — A gunman opened fire on Wednesday morning at the Annunciation Catholic School during a church service, killing two young students and injuring 17 worshippers. Authorities confirmed that the shooter, identified as 23-year-old Robin Westman, scrawled hate-filled messages on his weapons, including “Kill Donald Trump,” “Nuke India,” and “Burn Israel.”
The attack began around 8:30 a.m., when Westman used a rifle, a shotgun, and a pistol to unleash dozens of rounds inside the church. Two children, aged eight and ten, were fatally struck. The suspect was later discovered dead in the parking lot from what investigators believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
In the hours before the attack, Westman uploaded several disturbing videos to a YouTube channel titled “Robin W”, which were later removed by the platform’s administrators. One video, lasting more than ten minutes, displayed an arsenal of weapons, ammunition, and loaded magazines defaced with messages such as “Israel must fall,” “Kill Trump now,” and the names of previous school shooters. Some of the messages were written in Cyrillic script.
The footage also included a letter addressed to Westman’s family, apologizing for the consequences of the attack, alongside disturbing remarks referencing gender identity and clothing choices. “I know I am not a woman but I definitely don’t feel like a man… I think I want to wear something like this for my shooting,” one post read.
According to court records, Westman legally changed his name from Robert to Robin in January 2020, at the age of 17, while identifying as female. However, officials noted that recent writings suggested a retreat from that identity.
U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed the authenticity of the shooter’s videos. She stated that investigators found phrases including “For the Children,” “Where is your God?” and “Kill Donald Trump” written on the rifle magazines. “This level of violence is unthinkable,” Noem wrote on X.
Authorities confirmed that Westman legally purchased the firearms, had no known criminal record, and acted alone.
In response to the tragedy, President Donald Trump ordered the U.S. flag to be flown at half-staff nationwide as a mark of mourning.
The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to determine the full scope of Westman’s motives and possible influences.
