PURI, ODISHA – A 15-year-old girl who was allegedly set on fire by unidentified individuals in Odisha’s Puri district on July 19 has succumbed to her injuries, despite sustained efforts by medical teams and authorities. The girl had suffered 75% burn injuries and was receiving treatment at AIIMS, New Delhi, after being initially admitted to the Pipili Community Health Centre.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi confirmed the heartbreaking news and expressed his condolences.
“I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of the young victim in the Balanga incident. Despite all efforts by the government and the dedicated care provided by the expert medical team at AIIMS Delhi, her life could not be saved,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Police Investigation Nearing Conclusion
The tragic case, which drew public attention and concern, has taken a new turn as the Odisha Police announced that their investigation is nearing completion and found no involvement of any external individuals.
In a statement on X, Odisha Police said:
“We are deeply saddened by the victim's death in the Balanga incident. Our investigation has been conducted with utmost sincerity and has reached its final stage. Based on the findings so far, there is no evidence of involvement by any other individual. We urge everyone to refrain from making sensitive or speculative remarks during this difficult time.”
Initially, the victim’s mother had filed a complaint alleging that her daughter had been abducted and set on fire by unknown persons. However, police findings have reportedly not supported this version of events.
Condolences Pour In
The former Chief Minister of Odisha also expressed his sorrow over the incident:
“Deeply saddened and anguished to learn that the young girl from Balanga in Puri district has passed away while undergoing treatment at AIIMS. My heartfelt condolences go out to her family. May they find the strength to endure this profound loss,” he wrote on X.
