Passenger Goes Missing After Mid-Flight Assault Aboard IndiGo; Later Found in Assam

Kolkata/Assam – A startling mid-air incident aboard IndiGo flight 6E138 (Mumbai–Kolkata) has drawn widespread attention after a video showing a passenger being slapped by a fellow flyer went viral. The assaulted passenger, identified as Hussan Ahmed Majumdar from Cachar district in Assam, was reported missing following the altercation but has since been located.

According to initial reports, Majumdar allegedly experienced a panic attack during the flight and requested to deboard. As cabin crew assisted him, another passenger, identified as Hafijul Rahaman, unexpectedly slapped him. The shocking act, caught on camera, quickly circulated online, sparking outrage.

Upon arrival in Kolkata, Rahaman was detained by airport security and handed over to the local police for further action.

Family Shocked, Passenger Reported Missing

Unaware of the incident, Majumdar’s family was waiting to receive him at Silchar Airport. When he failed to arrive, and his phone remained unreachable, concern escalated. After witnessing the viral video, his family attempted to contact him repeatedly, but without success.

“We filed a missing person complaint after realizing he never boarded the connecting flight to Silchar nor exited Kolkata Airport,” his father, Abdul Mannan Majumdar, told NDTV. Authorities eventually traced the teenager to Barpeta Railway Station in Assam, where he was found disoriented and reportedly unwell. He is now being escorted back to his hometown.

IndiGo Responds to Incident

In response to the incident, IndiGo issued an official statement, strongly condemning the unruly behavior.
“In line with our commitment to discourage such conduct on board, the individual involved in the assault has been suspended from flying with IndiGo, in accordance with regulatory guidelines,” the airline said.

“The safety and well-being of our customers and crew remain our foremost priority,” the statement added.

The incident has reignited public discourse around in-flight passenger conduct, airline response protocols, and mental health sensitivity during air travel. Further investigations into the altercation and its aftermath are ongoing.
