California, August 25 — Confusion surrounded the case of missing seven-month-old Emmanuel Haro on Sunday after local reports and social media claims suggested that the child’s remains had been discovered near Freeway 60 in Yucaipa. However, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office later confirmed that no remains were found.
The reports came shortly after Emmanuel’s parents, Jake and Rebecca Haro, were arrested on suspicion of murder. Rumors spread that the infant’s body had been located following an alleged confession by Jake Haro. Deputies, accompanied by cadaver dogs, searched an area along the westbound shoulder of State Route 60 near Gilman Springs Road, but the search proved unsuccessful.
“The search is wrapping up and Emmanuel was not located,” the Sheriff’s Department told CBS News Los Angeles, adding that investigators now believe the child is deceased. Officials declined to comment on Jake Haro’s role in Sunday’s search efforts.
Background of the Case
Emmanuel was reported missing by his mother on August 14, who claimed she was attacked and knocked unconscious in the parking lot of a Big 5 Sporting Goods store in Yucaipa. When she regained consciousness, both her child and the alleged attacker were gone.
Initially treated as a kidnapping, the case later shifted to a missing child investigation after detectives cited “inconsistencies” in the mother’s statement and indicated that foul play could not be ruled out. A previous search in Kern County on August 20 also yielded no results.
Meanwhile, records of prior child abuse allegations against Jake Haro surfaced. He secured legal counsel before being taken into custody. Both parents were arrested on August 22 and are expected to appear in court this week.
