New Delhi, August 12 – Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday described farmers as the “lifegivers” of the nation, declaring that there is no greater form of worship than serving those who feed the country.
Speaking at an interaction with farmers at the Pusa Institute, Chouhan invoked Hindu philosophy, likening food to Brahma, the god of creation. “Food is our life; food is Brahma. The farmer provides food, and thus he is both the giver of food and life,” he said. “As the agriculture minister, I consider serving farmers to be akin to worshipping God. I strive to be a ‘kisan sevak’ because I live and breathe farming, and farmers dwell in every fibre of my being.”
Reaffirming the central government’s commitment to farmer welfare, Chouhan assured that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would never compromise on the interests of farmers. “This is the voice of India, and it is the voice of India’s farmers,” he said.
‘Let Swadeshi Become a Mantra’
Chouhan also urged citizens to unite during challenging times by embracing self-reliance. He noted India’s rise as the world’s fourth-largest economy and expressed confidence it would soon become the largest. “That day will come when India will be the world’s leading economy, but for that, we must all contribute,” he said.
He called for every festival and celebration to promote indigenous products. “Things made in our country will strengthen us, empower our children, create jobs for our youth, and uplift our mothers and sisters associated with self-help groups. Let Swadeshi become a mantra and a movement, so that whatever we use is Swadeshi,” Chouhan said.
