Alappuzha, August 26: In a shocking incident, police in Pattanakkad have arrested twin brothers for allegedly assaulting their bedridden father in an inebriated state and circulating a video of the attack.
The accused, Akhil Chandran (30) and Nikhil Chandran (30), residents of Chandranivas, Pattanakkad, were taken into custody for the assault on their 79-year-old father, Chandrashekharan Nair. The disturbing video, which has since gone viral on social media, shows Akhil brutally attacking his father as he lay helpless on his bed late Sunday night.
According to the police, the video recorded at 10:42 p.m. shows Akhil striking his father on the back of the head with a steel bangle he was wearing, forcibly restraining his arms, and twisting his neck. Their mother, seated nearby, appeared visibly helpless as the assault unfolded. Nikhil filmed the act and reportedly shared the clip with friends and their elder brother, Praveen.
Police said the brothers appeared to be enjoying themselves while committing the assault. It was Praveen’s complaint, after receiving the video, that led to the registration of the case. Following the circulation of the footage on social media, both accused went into hiding but were later traced and arrested from Cherthala.
The brothers will be produced before the Cherthala court today. Police also revealed that the duo had previously faced charges in 2023 for assaulting their father, with a case registered at Pattanakkad police station at that time.
