After the India-Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 clash, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bharadwaj launched a sharp attack on India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, questioning the sincerity of his tribute to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and daring him to donate his match earnings to their families.
“He said he dedicated this win to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack so casually. If you, the BCCI, and the ICC truly have the courage, then donate all the money earned from broadcasting rights, advertising, and the business surrounding this match to the 26 widows of the victims. Only then will we believe the dedication is genuine,” Bharadwaj said. He further added, “They don’t have the courage or the means to do it. Instead, they just keep making hollow statements of dedication. It is shameful.”
Bharadwaj’s remarks came after India’s victory over Pakistan, a match that had already been mired in controversy, with calls for a boycott following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. The attack was claimed by The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
Following the win, Yadav had dedicated the victory to India’s armed forces involved in Operation Sindoor, stating that the team “stands with the families of the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack.” Indian players also refrained from shaking hands with the Pakistani team after the match, a gesture that fueled further debate.
In May, India launched Operation Sindoor, striking terrorist and military installations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in retaliation for the attack.
