Convicted Former MP Prajwal Revanna Assigned Library Clerk Role in Bengaluru Prison

BENGALURU: Former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, who is serving a life sentence in a rape case, has been assigned work as a library clerk at Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara.

Prison officials confirmed that Revanna began his duties about a week ago. His responsibilities include issuing books to fellow inmates and maintaining the prison library’s records. “He is currently working in the prison library,” Additional Director General of Police (Prisons) B. Dayananda told TOI.

Under Karnataka’s prison rules, inmates are classified into job categories ranging from unskilled to highly skilled. Wages vary between ₹524 and ₹663 per day, depending on the nature of the work. Prisoners are paid only for the days they are on duty. Authorities did not disclose Revanna’s pay grade, but library work generally falls under the skilled or highly skilled category. Sources indicated that Revanna is scheduled to work two to three days per week.

Revanna was convicted by a special court on August 2 for repeatedly raping his domestic worker. The conviction followed a chargesheet filed by the Special Investigation Team of the Criminal Investigation Department. Along with the life sentence, he was ordered to pay ₹11.6 lakh as compensation to the victim.
