Gardaí are investigating a fresh threat made against Tánaiste and Fine Gael leader Simon Harris after warning calls on Sunday claimed that a bomb had been placed at his family home in Co Wicklow.
According to sources, multiple calls were made to at least three Garda stations earlier in the day, prompting an immediate security response. Detectives and bomb disposal experts were dispatched to Mr. Harris’ residence. However, officials confirmed that neither Mr. Harris nor his family were at the property at the time. They are understood to be in a secure location.
This marks the third threat directed at the Tánaiste in just two weeks. On Saturday, it was revealed that a serious online threat of violence had been made against a close member of Mr. Harris’ family via the Meta platform. The Garda’s Special Detective Unit, which handles counter-terror investigations, is probing that incident.
Just days earlier, a woman from west Dublin was arrested on suspicion of threatening to kidnap Mr. Harris’ children. She was later released without charge.
Addressing reporters on Saturday before the latest threat, Mr. Harris condemned the escalating abuse. “What I and my family have faced in recent weeks is not political debate. It is abuse. It is intimidation. It is behaviour that should never, ever be treated as normal,” he said. “The threats made against my family are having deeply distressing consequences. Last week, direct threats were made against my children. And now, this weekend, vile and horrific threats were directed at a very close family member.”
When contacted, a Garda spokesperson confirmed: “An Garda Síochána is currently investigating this matter.”
