Indian-Origin Man Shoved Off Stage at Anti-Immigration Rally in Australia

An anti-immigration rally in Australia took a dramatic turn when an Indian-origin man, attempting to address the crowd, was shoved off stage midway through his speech. The incident, captured in a video circulating widely on social media, has not yet been independently verified.

The rally, held on September 1 under the banner March for Australia, was aimed at protesting rising immigration levels. Organizers allowed the Indian man, wearing a yellow T-shirt with “Australia” printed on it, to speak despite immigrants being the very focus of the demonstration.

Introducing himself, he said: “Yes, I am a brown man. Yes, I’m an immigrant from India — but I came here for the right reason. What I see happening today — this is not immigration. This is an open-door policy. They are not blending into our culture; they are twisting it.”

As he attempted to continue, declaring that “immigration is about not taking but giving, not demanding but respecting,” he was abruptly pushed aside and the microphone taken away. His comments were met with a mix of cheers and boos from the crowd.

The March for Australia rallies, held across multiple cities, argued that immigration levels had surged unsustainably, singling out the Indian community. Protesters claimed more Indians had migrated to Australia since 2020 than Greeks or Italians had since 1925. On its website, the movement asserted that “mass migration has torn at the bonds that held our communities together.”

The Australian government distanced itself from the rallies. Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke said: “There is no place in our country for people who seek to divide and undermine our social cohesion. We stand with modern Australia against these rallies – nothing could be less Australian.”

Political Controversy Over Immigration Remarks
The debate over immigration has also spilled into politics. Liberal Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price sparked outrage after suggesting the government was prioritizing “Labor-leaning” migrant communities such as Indians. She later retracted her statement, reaffirming Australia’s “longstanding and bipartisan non-discriminatory migration policy.”

In a clarification, she emphasized the positive role of the Indian diaspora: “Indian migrants have a strong record of integration, embracing our values, working hard in many fields of endeavour, and joining the league of cherished Australian citizens. My own children share Indian ancestry, and I deeply value these connections.”
