NEW DELHI: A 20-year-old woman was allegedly abducted and raped by two acquaintances in Haridevpur, south Kolkata, after she declined an invitation to a birthday party, police said on Sunday.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday night. According to the complaint, one of the accused, Chandan Mallick, had invited the woman to a celebration, which she refused. Later, Mallick and his associate, Debangshu Biswas, allegedly abducted her from her home and took her to Malancha, where she was raped multiple times.
Police said the survivor managed to return home and informed her family, who then accompanied her to the police station to file a complaint. She has since undergone a medical examination. “The two accused have fled, and we are searching for them. Our officers are visiting the crime scene as part of the investigation,” a senior officer told PTI.
The case has been registered and an investigation is underway.
