A seven-year-old missing person case in Uttar Pradesh has taken an unexpected turn after a woman identified her “missing” husband in an Instagram reel with another woman—leading to his arrest.
Jitendra Kumar, also known as Bablu, was reported missing in 2018, just a year after his marriage to Sheelu. Their relationship deteriorated quickly, with Sheelu alleging harassment for dowry, including demands for a gold chain and a ring. When the demands went unmet, she was forced out of her marital home, prompting her family to file a dowry harassment case.
As the case proceeded, Jitendra disappeared. His father subsequently lodged a missing person complaint in April 2018, triggering a police search that yielded no results. With no trace of him, Jitendra’s family accused Sheelu of murdering him and concealing his body—leaving her to live under suspicion for years.
The truth emerged only recently when Sheelu spotted Jitendra in a viral Instagram reel. Recognising him instantly, she informed police. Investigators later confirmed that Jitendra had staged his disappearance and relocated to Ludhiana, where he remarried and started a new life. His activity on social media ultimately exposed his deception.
Sandila Circle Officer Santosh Singh confirmed Jitendra’s arrest, stating that he now faces charges of bigamy, fraud, and dowry harassment. He remains in police custody as further legal proceedings move forward.
