One terrorist was killed and an Indian Army jawan sustained injuries during an encounter with security forces in the forested area of Gudar, Kulgam district, Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Monday.
The joint anti-terror operation involved personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Indian Army, and the CRPF. According to the Kashmir Zone Police, the operation was launched after intelligence inputs indicated the presence of terrorists in the area.
In a statement on X, the Army’s Chinar Corps said, “Alert troops noticed suspicious movement, and upon being challenged, terrorists opened fire. In the ensuing exchange of fire, one terrorist was eliminated and a Junior Commissioned Officer was injured.”
The injured officer was airlifted to the Army’s 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar for treatment. The identity of the slain terrorist is being ascertained, officials added.
The search operation, which began as a cordon-and-search effort, escalated into a gunfight after the terrorists opened fire on the security forces’ position.
