Tokyo/Osaka: United Airlines (UAL.O) said on Friday that two people sustained minor injuries after one of its flights made an emergency landing in Japan following concerns of a possible fire in the cargo hold.
United Flight 32, a Boeing (BA.N) 737-800 carrying 135 passengers and seven crew members, was en route from Tokyo’s Narita Airport to Cebu in the Philippines when it was diverted to Kansai International Airport in Osaka.
According to the airline, all passengers and crew were safely evacuated via emergency slides. The two injured individuals were transported to hospital for treatment.
An initial maintenance inspection revealed no evidence of a fire onboard, United confirmed.
Reuters said it was unable to reach officials at Kansai airport, local police, the fire department, or Japan’s transport ministry for further comment outside normal business hours.
